About The Doctors Dr. David Farberow Dr. David Farberow graduated from Illinois College of Optometry in 1980. David first moved to Santa Cruz in 1974, after graduating from UCLA with a BA in psychology in 1972. After several years of working locally for other doctors, he bought a satellite office from a doctor in Gilroy, and began private practice on 41st Ave. in 1983. After 12 years at that location, he and Dr. Simmons opened Plaza Lane Optometry in downtown Santa Cruz, on Pacific Avenue. David has been president and served on the board of the Monterey Bay Optometric Society for many years. He was president of the Capitola Lions Club, and served on their board for many years as well and has continued that tradition of serving the community and those less fortunate by serving on the board of directors of the Doran Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. He has been president of this organization. His special interests are children and family vision care, as well as specialty contact lens fits. David is married to a chiropractor and has two grown stepdaughters. Dr. Curt Simmons Dr. Simmons is a fourth-generation Californian. He was raised in Riverside and attended the University of California at Riverside, where he received a degree in Biology in 1977. He continued his studies at the University of California at Berkeley and received his doctor of optometry degree in 1982. Immediately after graduation he accepted a position as staff optometrist at the Eye Medical Center in Fresno and spent five years managing the visual needs of post-surgical patients. In 1987 Dr. Simmons established his solo practice in Santa Cruz. He spent five years as consulting optometrist for the Doran Center for the Blind. In 1995 the Plaza Lane Building was completed and Dr. Simmons moved his practice from the Galleria in Downtown Santa Cruz to the Pacific Avenue location. Dr. Simmons is a member of the American and California Optometric Associations. He is past president of the Santa Cruz Kiwanis Club and spent ten years on the Board of Directors of Shakespeare Santa Cruz. He is an active member of First Congregational Church of Santa Cruz.
