We are experts in all types of contact lens options.
Nowadays, contact lens options are available for almost all eye conditions and situations. From bifocal to astigmatism, tinted to UV protection, you have many choices when it comes to the world of contacts.
Even people with complicated prescriptions who have been told they could not wear contacts, may be able to enjoy vision without needing to rely on glasses.
Conventional soft and rigid lenses have been around for many years, as have daily wear and overnight options. There are, however, several options that most folks have never heard of and we would like you to know about them:
Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT):
Non-surgical correction for nearsightedness and astigmatism
This is a new technology that allows us to correct vision so that no glasses or contacts are necessary during the daytime. A specially designed contact lens is used to change the shape of the cornea, much like LASIK (refractive surgery). The difference is that CRT is reversible (unlike surgical procedures), and requires nightly wearing of the lenses. This technique is available for most prescriptions for nearsightedness. Multifocal Contact Lenses
Contacts for folks that need more than just a distance prescription have been around for many years. Dr. Farberow and Dr. Simmons have been fitting RGPs (a rigid material that is permeable to oxygen) since they graduated optometry school with a great deal of success. However, this lens has limited appeal due to its rigid nature. Many people have grown up wearing the much more supple, pliable material commonly known as soft lenses. Very few people know, however, that these lenses are available in bifocal (or multifocal) designs, which have no lines in them and don’t need special techniques to keep them aligned properly in the eye.
Lenses such as these have actually been around for many years now but have been poorly utilized, partly due to their greater complexity in prescribing. Over the past few years, there have been more improvements in design and we are very happy to report that now a much larger percentage of the population can enjoy good vision with these products. Make sure to ask us about these options when you come in for your next exam.
